Trip to Murudeshwar

Location : Murudeshwar, Karnataka

From : Udupi, Karnataka

Total distance : Around 102 km, and is easily reached by driving (aprox 3 hours ) and Train (approx 2 hours)

Route : Mangalore - Udupi - Kundapur - Bhatkal - Murdeshwar

Murudeshwar is an amazing getaway for a weekend, and can be visited either over a day or over two days, staying overnight at any of the affordable accomodation facilites avaiable in the area. The star attraction of the Temple, is the magnificent Statue of Lord Shiva (2nd largest in the world) and The huge gopura (249 feet, largest in the world). The seated Shiva is surrounded by the waters of the Arabian Sea on three sides, and is visible from most of the village.

We left from Udupi to catch the 8.20 Rajdhani which goes to Goa, but the train got delayed by around 2 hours (sigh!!!) which meant we lost the chance to see the beautiful early sun. However once on the train, we had good company [or more like beautiful company :) ] and we reached at 11.30am . After a short walk, we reached the entrance to Murudeshwar, and a 20 rupee ride took us 5 km to the beach shore, and to the RNS resort where we stayed.

The beach is good, but not really great. But the best part of the whole trip is the ride up the elevator (20 stories) on the raj gopura (Rs 20). The view from the top floor is amazing, and you can see all around the village. Apart from that , the hillock on which the Statue is situated is also a fantastic view point, and also good to enjoy the breeze from the sea.

We stayed overnight, and caught some fantastic sights of Lord Shiva under the lights. After roaming around the village and the beach, we were back for some well deserved sleep.

We got back to Udupi, by catching a giovernment bus (very convenient) instead of the railways, and go to have a look at the beautiful Marvanthe Beach as well.

For the easily bored, there are the regular water sports (rating 2.5/ 5) and the wine shops :P , but overall a good getaway for the weekend. Max cost for 2 people Rs 3000 ( with food, accomodation, etc, etc)

I leave you with some pictures to enjoy :)

Cheers!!!

The Game of Love

Must we play these games, my love?
Where winning is more important than each other,
The cause for us is lost
Right here itself,
What fun will these games deliver?

Yes, its true, we're not the same
And surely you will find many that are
But then they're them, and I am me,
And I am the one that's different by far

Am not stupid, and neither are you
Then why the intent to show it so?
This should be a game, for us and them
And not between me and you

All I hear, is what your not saying
And its not a pleasant tune
Patience is a virtue, and I know
that it too will run out soon

So Don't throw the dice, Don't look at the score,
Life has a lot to offer.
Perhaps Today, Perhaps tomorrow,
But for sure, this game will make us suffer

The time's are a little, to play such games,
I hope its now, not never.
Lets make up, and build our world
Today, Tomorrow and Forever.

If at this, you still want to play this game
Then am no willing player
I'll take mine, and you take yours
And we'll walk on our roads in the sunset, I hope one last time together.

The Day started with a call to Easy Boy at 5.30 am. It went something like this

Oct 16, 2010

In Love

In love with your eyes
The way they swim in that smile

In Love with your hair
When they play hide and seek

In Love with your walk
For no reason at all

In Love with your anger
It makes you look real

In Love when your not around
Cos your on my mind

In Love when your silent
The more to look forward to

In Love when your nonsensical
It reminds me of Life

In Love with everything,

In Love with you, cos I realized
This nut needed a bolt, and yes, thats you

Cheers :)

The Dog, The Spider and Beauty

From the Past 4 days, this dog has me in a fix. We have no idea where he comes from, where he disappears to, and apparently am the only one apart from my ground floor neighbors who have seen him. His face looks just like Jimmy's. The First day he was outside the gate, and he didn't wake up from his classic "chin on the floor" slump look (classic Labradorean style). He didn't budge an inch when my bike was almost over him. Strange. And no response to the regular whistle, coochie coos and all that.

My Experiments with Chicken

Am a great cook. Especially when the menu is a seven course meal. I prepare a signature seven course meal, and they comprise of the following

1. Home decorated Lays for the appetizer
2. Maggi Soup
3. Cucumber Salad
4. Maggi sorbet (whatever that is)
5. Maggi with Onions
6. Maggi with tomatoes
7. Home Decorated Baskin Robins ice cream

However I recently discovered that this meal did not live up to expectations of others (that's everyone else but me) and what with all this Master chef this, and master chef that, I had to prove that there were other things that I could cook.

My Mum and Dad are Awesome cooks. I mean really really awesome. Friends who have come home swear by it, and apparently I don't seem to have picked up anything from my genes.

But I was out to prove them wrong. And here, I present, My experiments with Chicken.

***
Chicken Kum-gas-pe

This should be also called the Chicken Tandoori, but my narration will tell you why the name was adapted to the story. I'll cut the background story and skip right to the interesting part. After goading over the careful marination of the chicken, I had it all ready to be cooked on the slow fire, exactly how the instructions read on the pack.

I beautifully placed the well cut pieces of tender spiced chicken in straight lines on the pan, that was gently greased with butter. I ensured that it was perfect fit, and pulled out the phone for some snaps. I savored the moment.

Then I pulled out the match, and struck it with that hint of aggression that resulted in a peppy spark. As I turned the gas knob, ever so gingerly, to ensure that perfect flame for that perfect frying, I heard the click, and waited for the hiss of gas, bursting out of its enslaved cylinder to burn bright blue.

Click. No hiss

Click. No hiss

Clickety Clickety Click. Nothing.Zilch

I was feeling nauseated. I fumbled around the kitchen for the instructions. There was supposed to be a damn flame under the damn pan after the click. In my mind, chickens were ganging up, laughing, taunting.

Where the hell are the instructions to check the cooking gas!!!  I should have picked up the phone and called my lawyer to sue Everest Masalas. But then it was a Sunday and my lawyer would have probably on leave.

And then, the roof parted, the blue sky opened, it was when Fate spoke to me.

FATE : "Madan!!!, Its time for you to show those delicious scrumptious pieces of chicken, who's the boss. If you have to pull out all those management text books in your shelves to make a bonfire and cook that chicken, you will. If it takes robbing a few bricks to make a barbecue, you will. Hell, if it takes you to stare at that damn pan and heat it with telepathy, YOU WILL DO IT. This is your calling, this is your DESTINY"

And then I had my Transformers moment

Me : And I am Madanus Prime, leader of the Bachelor-o-bots and I send this message to all you chickens. "Your Fried meat!!!"

Me and my trusted roomy made frantic calls to all the gas agency's in the country. It was a Sunday. And no one was answering. We then tried sweet talking a the cooking gas guy near our house in to lending us a mini gas cylinder. But he dint have one. It was then that we decided, that if there ever was someone who would work on a Sunday, and get us what we wanted, it was the country's most enterprising citizen, the Marwari Business man.

And we knew that in any market street in the country, there would be a marwari sales man, a marwari cosmetic/bangle shop and a marwari utensil dealer.

And we did find the Marwari Dealer. Selling utensils. And the stuff that we needed. Needless to say, we got we were looking for.

Later in the evening, over a delicious plate of fried Chicken Tandoor, a thought crossed my mind. This was no ordinary chicken, this was a masterpiece, cooked over a stove that had no gas supply.

And thats when Chicken Kum-gas-pe (Hindi Translation - On less Gass) was born. My First non Maggi dish. sniff. sniff.

I shall leave with proof :) --->

Coming Soon, Chicken Binacooka

Soul Searching

No, its not a movie title starring saucer shaped spaceships stealing souls in an effort to wipe out the human race. Come to think of it though, it is a possible movie title, and vague enough to get you into a multiplex.

Sharing Common Wealth (Games), Politics and News Channels

Fancy how everyone has an expert opinion on the CW Games to be held in India. Hell, even toddlers seem to be going "ga ga" over it. The last time I saw the country get together on such a scale was when Slumdog Millionaire won the Oscar, and everyone called it an "Indian Movie"..

Apparently, some top athletes and sporting nations are pulling out of the games citing poor "living" conditions. Perhaps I'd do the same if I were on a vacation, but hey! am not an athlete am I?

Ant Tales - Ants don't fall in Love

Little Ant climbing up the wall
I wonder why you're so small
You keep crawling inch by inch
Don't you ever fear a fall?

By Day and night, dusk and dawn
You keep climbing, crawling, walking on
What is it that keeps you going,
Do share with us, oh little one.

Is it really food that you search for all day?
Or is there a mystery behind all the play,
That you always walk in a straight line
Nothing seems to deter you from your way.

Don't you ever take a break?
To rest those tiny arms and legs
Toiling away all through the day
To fetch something, that everyone will take

Don't you ever fall in love,
For that's what everyone does
And then they change, for someone else
And everything goes astray, regardless what they say

Now I know, why you're so small
You have no space for love and all
Only when a heart falls, it hurts
And hence, you care not if you fall

Little Ant climbing up the wall
I know now, why you're so small
Continue crawling inch by inch
Why worry of a fall.

Then, There and Now

Am at cross roads of some sort. I can feel it. Some strange sense of uneasiness and irritation has come over me, unlike the happy go lucky regular food stuffing person that I am.

I get angry very quickly these days (not regular quickly, madan-quickly standard) which is still slow by normal averages, Very restless in the afternoons, sleepy at nights, don't feel like gorging on chicken or non vegetarian food, Opinions have begun to bother me, Have been reading books after a loooong time, not coming home to my beloved game console, meeting people out of sheer boredom (sounds like loneliness to me) blogging more regularly, Jealousy, vying for attention, riding my bike a tad too fast, hmmmm...

The last time I hit a cross road, it took me 2 years to recover. Bet she hardly noticed.

---

Strange are the ways of men and women. When they like someone, they act more weird in person. They try to be someone else in order to impress, and in the process end up being someone else, and then one day "boom" they get together and its like "Hey you weren't like this before we got married"

Duh!!!

Strangely, the one whom I never met, knew me more than the ones I had met. Pity she didn't want to meet that day.

---

So is friendship the key ? Whats the chances on that road? Stand by and watch doesn't really seem easy, But then what is? And when do you know when this ends and that starts? If its meant to be, will it?

There are no coincidences in life, they say.

But there's a lot of hope.

----

Cheers

Marriage, Love and Spirituality

Marriages are made in heaven. South Indian Marriages are made in rooms between families of the bride and groom, except the bride and groom. Konkani marriages are made in other peoples marriages.

If you attend a GSB/Konkani/Amchigele marriage, you'd be surprised to see the bonding of the women there, all gushing and chattering incessantly. But the truth is, under those multi layers of Kanjeevaram silk and heavy gold jewellery, Detailed battle plans are being laid to bind two unsuspecting individuals through the "arranged" marriage strategy.Of course the only thing probably common to the unsuspecting individuals, would be that they apparently are of "marriageable" age.

The Rose Girl

I wrapped up myself in my arms just so that I was comfortable in not making her uncomfortable. While the bus moved on out of Bangalore, she spoke to different people on the phone. Her voice was very soft, at the same time had the tone of a self confident girl, someone who could be quick to retort at the shortest signs of being rebuked or taken for granted. Reminded me of someone who was had just discovered independence, or had some sort of responsibility on her shoulders, a mini rebel, but a sweet one at that.

A skinny Thief

Gabbar Singh has been our most loved villain. His "Arrre Oh Samba!!!" and the rider to the dialogue "Kitne Admi the..."is probably the most easily remembered Bollywood dialogues. I have my own theory, that his love for Sambhar and the thought that he would have to share it with other "Admi's" prompted this question, but lets keep that aside for now.

His popularity was probably followed by the legendary Ambrish Puri(Mogambo!!!), and the remaining minions in the roles of serial murderers, kidnappers and smugglers with a million thugs on their team firing away machine guns that couldn't hurt a mouse, even if it were the size of the incredible Hulk and tied to a wall post.

Previous Post in the series TSB 7 Booth Tales

Soon after the Booth closed down, It was back to the same old routine. Its interesting to see that help comes from people you least expect, and you meet so many interesting characters when we bother to open our eyes and see things apart from whats obvious. You realize that we've missed out on a large part of life because of our infatuation with "our" world. Which is like looking into a mirror all the time, and forgetting the part thats not visible in the mirror.

Of Cockroaches and Politicans

Its actually interesting to see how most of the things in this world are better than our "neta babus" . In fact I think you can actually sit and see that everything has something or the better than them...(Even without favoritism)So I was just mind-wandering, and I randomly picked a creature to compare with the neta babu/politician. In this case, I chose a cockroach.

I remember you

When I walk across the cement court
Strewn with golden leaves
When I see the wooden benches
And through the windows, the age old garden tree
When I walk up the temple path
And cross the little shop
Or I see the mirror
And laugh at my silly crop
I remember you.

When I see my cellphone
And an unkown number rings
When I think of the invisible
And think of those funny things
That we discussed at all times of the day
And no matter how I tried,
For some reason, you kept me away
I remember you.

One I saw and knew, yet we never met
And One I only heard, yet we met and knew
One, on what the eyes believed
And One on what the heart felt was true

Small things become important
And important things become irrelevant
One was beautiful and One was true
Now you're gone
Yet all said, and Yet all done
I still remember you

Saturday was eventful as far as food goes. Visited this place called Daddy's Deli on Indiranagar 12th Main. I had my eyes set on this place for quite some time, but I could make it only on Saturday. It was a quick stop, so couldn't get into the restaurant, but I did grab a Quick bite downstairs. I had an egg omelet on Minced mutton, and it was absolutely fantastic. The name of the dish was is something I cant remember, and something that even Google is refusing to give me, hence I keep it to what I can remember, and that is ------ par eeda!!! But one thing I remember is the absolute taste!!! I am gonna go back soon!!!

Know your tiger Part 1

As part of our ongoing campaign to contribute towards the "Save our Tigers"campaign , we have planned a series of posts about Tigers. This is to create awareness about these beautiful creatures and educate people about them.

(Most of the information has been studied and learnt form other sites, and the links will be given at the end of the post)

What are Tigers?

Tigers are part of the cat family, scientifically known as Panthera Tigris. They are apex predators and are Carnivores(am sure you knew that!!!), which means they are on the top of the food chain, and survive from nutrients in their prey's flesh.

( From the Family:Felidae, Sub Family:Pantherinae, Genus:Panthera)

Tigers are part of the" Panthera" Genus which they share with what are also known as the Big Four Cats, namely Lions (Panthera leo), Leopards (Panthera Pardus) and Jaguars (Panthera Onca)

Other famous members of the Felidae family are the Cheetah ( Acinonyx jubatus) and Domestic Cats (Felius Catus) However they belong to another Sub Family all together (Feline)

How Do Tigers Look?

Tigers are large Cats . They can reach lengths of more than 3 meters and weigh up to 300 kilograms. These animals are characterized by large dark stripes from the top to the bottom of their body, which run along thick fur;tthe colour of which ranges from a dark orange/red to near white with lighter under colours.

A popular misunderstanding is that the white coloured tigers are a seperate sub species. However that isnt true. The White Bengal tiger, for instance isnt a "white" tiger. Its colour arises from a recessive gene which gives it the pale white colour and blue eyes.

Another example is of the white siberian Tiger, the existence of which has not been proved, though there have been reported sightings of white tigers in the areas where Siberian tigers live.It could also be possible that Siberian tigers that had a gene for natural white coating have been extinct long back.

Additionally, there have been so far no white siberian tigers born in captivity, and the white siberian tigers that you see at Zoos are because of the breeding of the Bengal Tiger and Siberian Tigers. The Bengal tiger most commonly has the gene for white coating.

Where did the name Tiger come from?

Wikipedia says...
"The word "tiger" is taken from the Greek word "tigris", which is possibly derived from a Persian source meaning "arrow", a reference to the animal's speed and also the origin for the name of the Tigris river. "

Where do they live?

Tigers are usually found in the dense cover of Forests. These forests can range from mangroves to semi evergreen to deciduous forests. Unlike lorides of Lions, dense vegetation is well suited for Tigers to hunt. Most Tiger habitats will have easy access to prey and water and dense cover.Tigers are good at swimming and will actively seek out water body's to relax in the high temperatures of the day.

The Problem today...

Tiger Habitats once extended from Western Asia to Siberia and Indonesia. In the 19th century the Tigers vanished from Western Asia. Modernization and human civilization along with poaching has lead to these magnificent creatures disappearing from their habits. Today Tigers are endagered and protected species. Their Major habitats are now around India, Sumatra, China and south East Asia. The Tigers on Java and Bali were extinct in early 20th century, and the tigers of Borneo are only recognized by their Fossil Remains.

There are numerous programs which have been up to save these creatures, but unfortunately corruption, poaching and illegal hunting of these creatures have driven tiger populations to the brink of extinction.

This is part one in a series of Posts on the Tiger in an effort to create awareness on Tiger conservation. More interesting topics coming up. Meanwhile please log on to www.saveourtigers.com

Keep Roaring!!!

Save Our Tigers

Recently Aircel has started a campaign called Save our tigers. This is a campaign to create awareness on the Tiger being an endangered species and on the brink of extinction. We have currently around 1400 tigers left in the country, surprising, because the Tiger is India's national Animal.

Am sure many of us would have known for quite some time that the Tiger numbers are going down. This has been so to a variety or reasons and excuses. But I have decided to contribute however I can. One is to sign up on the Save our tigers campaign started by Aircel. Second I will use my blog to communicate on everything that can is related to Tigers. I will also actively Tweet and FB my way around until I get something out of it.

I am also putting this communication in all possible ways across to as many people as possible.

Please sign up at www.saveourtigers.com. This is the least you can do.

Husband for Sale...

With every thing today being on sale, it wouldn't be very far when husbands go on sale.I had this weird (or maybe not so weird...) thought the other day when a flu got me into bed early.

I could see a fine young woman walk into a store with a huge Billboard saying...

"Christmas offer...Book your husband early and get a 2 million credit card free" (ya like it was a 2GB memory card)

Seeing the sign the lady walks in and is approached by the sales girl(SG) at the counter...

SG : Hi, welcome to "Thank God its Husbands". How may I help you?

Lady : Hi, I wanted to have a look at the latest models on the husband market

SG : Sure. You will find the latest models with us. Is there anything specific you were looking for? Maybe a good looking model, or perhaps a more of a "will do the house work" models.

Lady : Well whats the latest in fashion these days?

SG : Well we find this special model thats been selling like crazy for the last few days

(pointing a dark tall muscular looking mannequin)

Lady : And whats special about it...

SG : Well we have HUGE consumer satisfaction with this model. But its not much of help around the house, neither does it come with a mute button. The language default is "Kalahari" so u got to use it in mute most of the time. Apart from that it doesnt come with a fashion sense other than the loin cloth. No Free credit card on this one, as its a basic model. Can Rap and disco if trained appropriately.

Lady : Oh. am looking for a more of a total use than a one that's just good in the...ummm..you know...

(Moving towards the next Mannequin)

SG : Ah. Perhaps we can interest you in this fair one. Its a Chinese make.

Lady : Is it sleeping?

SG : Oh No. The Facial features look like that. Its actually a good model and useful around the house. No Pests. You got to be careful with the food, as most of the pests end up there. Also you wont need house safety. This model comes with in built Kung fu skills and superior fitness regimes. Also you will get a 20% Discount on Jackie Chan Movies and on Noodle Bars.

Lady : Wow. Can I take it out to dinner? And what about with kids.

SG : You can take them out to dinner, but avoid non oriental restaurants. Fine around kids as long as you don't mind them gobbling up crawling insects. You also need to be careful with furniture. They tend to fly around a lot.Keeping them away from any living creature that's not human is a good idea. Will Definitely end up in cooking. Will insist on china made electronics and equipment. And oh yeah, You get a free pair of chop sticks and a samurai sword with this one.

Lady : Yikes!!! Am not in for that kind of action..How about this American looking one..

SG : This is quite a popular model with our Foreign clients

Extremely good while being sociable. Good fashion sense and speaks three languages apart from English. You get a FREE 2 million credit card on this one. Is extremely good sense of style and loves lavish lifestyle. Wont work during the Super Bowl though. Loves Beer. Will come in the best size dimensions that you would want. My guitar :)

I got my guitar!!!

Yay... :)

Next step is to understand what do I do to get music out of it!!!

It cost me 4 k and its a gb&a..Got it from Premsons (one of the oldest stores in Bangalore) near Ulsoor lake. Too bad for me though am not much of a guitar-knowledge person, so Angad from Premsons helped me out lots in knowing more about these stringed beauties.

Definitely recommended for all music-instruments-wannabe-buyers!!!

Wonder if I should name the guitar...Strangely the name gypsy is playing on my mind....:)

Discrimination on the Basis of B school!!!

If you have been searching for this topic, welcome to the family!!!

Those of you having to read this by default (that is you have subscribed or have an RSS feed, humor me!!!)

Anyway, am expecting this to be a very hot topic and controversial topic. So please read the following at your own risk. I also know that corporates, do background checks and all that, and any comment or visit is absolutely at your risk. As for me, I dont give a damn until you convince me that am wrong. In which case I shall accept my mistake graciously

STATUTORY WARNING : Reading the following topic can be injurious to your paycheck/job opportunity/promotion etc

NOTE:

1. Any reference to any person is strictly for reference only
2. Any reference to any reference is for reference only.
3. No harm meant to toppers from any institute
4. Any thing that you might find derogatory was meant for someone else(in most cases the guy u hate)

Here goes,

On a recent forum, I found someone talking about shutting down IIT's in favor of using that money, in setting up more engineering colleges. They argued that quality of students produced would be more or less equivalent if the same educational facilities were offered to more people, than spending on infrastructure at the colleges. Mind you IIT's do cost a bomb.

Apart from being an interesting topic, what caught my fancy was this. Someone said...most grads from top college's move outta India (read U.S.A) to earn more money, and additionally because abroad, people recognize talent and promote it. Its not surprising to find people who work smart and hard move up the ladder quicker than in India.

In India, the competition is tougher and more difficult. And we suffer from two syndromes. "Scarcity" and "Brand"

Scarcity syndrome is defined as : while we have grown up, people have had to fight for the best, or more simply taught to compete for the best. As such, the ones that achieve the feat are automatically stars, as opposed to those that don't or those who dont aspire to . This is my problem number 1

Brand Syndrome is defined as: anything that is known for being top notch or popular automatically becomes "the ONLY" solution or answer to achievement. This is my problem number 2

This is how I bring the topic in. I agree that Top B schools provide the best methods of learning and measurement of learning. They do not guarantee the execution of that learning. They do not guarantee the quality of practical use and research on existing knowledge.
In short they don't guarantee practical results. Whatever the students have achieved at their work is what gives the school its name or brand. And there is no way to guarantee that all the students from these schools can achieve the same. Something like Polishing Rough Diamonds to polished ones with the best technology in the world. This may be due to various reasons.

Therefore : So all thats from top B school is not Gold
Are you still with me?Good.

Now there are Gadzillion colleges in this country of ours. Not all of them are known. So they arent Big Brands. So they dont attract the best talent, neither do they get the best facilities. So what they do get is mediocre students who they try to mould into a decent work force for the available jobs in the market. Its something like taking Iron and trying to mould it to something useful without having the right heat temperature. The Transformation to "Can be employed" from "cannot be employed" is BIG change.

Therefore : All that's from the non top B schools is not crap. I nfact the capacity to adapt and change is much larger than others (Read top B schools)

Here let me take a moment to talk to all you toppers from the top schools of this country. You deserve the credit. You deserve the recognition of cracking some of the toughest exams in the world. Your top notch. Absolutely.

But heres what your NOT. Your not above mistakes. Your not perfect. And your not invincible.

But then again the problems not with you. The problems are with corporates. For the love of God I fail to understand that why you wouldnt give a chance to someone who is not from a top college inspite of performing and inspite of showing talent that can be groomed. Its like when you have to promote someone whos not from a top college you have a hundred reasons. But if the same guy gets a degree from a top b school while working then hes automatically proved worthy and all your reasons disappear.

Why? Is it that you cant see the good work that he/she does in front of your eyes- And need additional proof from a top college?

Why cant you see character and integrity, instead of diploma and CGPA? Am not only talking about just existing employees but also while fresh recruits go on.

One of the Questions I asked recently on a professional Networking site, included on the process of recruting interview. Most of those who answered were international recruiters and stressed about the calibre of the person from previous work experience, or if a fresher the passion and sincerity in doing the work and "coachability"

NOT diploma. If you wanted a guy from a top B school, youd either be invited or would visit a top B school were the students would choose to work or not work with you. Not their fault, as they are brands themselves. You wouldnt mind coming back empty handed rather than look at people in your organisation.Who werent from top B schools. Why?

Why this obsession with Diplomas from Top B schools? Do you really need a diploma from the creme da la creme of Institutes to have all the gates open to you? Doesnt hard work, sincerity and intelligence count for anything? Just because you dint go to a Top B School make you any less deserving?Strange

Can you seriously prove a bolt made from the best factory in the world can fit all the nuts?!!

You cant can you?

If your not from a top B school, and yet perform well, youll get all the praise and additional work. But not a promotion. Not a raise. They know you can slog your arse off, but hesistate when it comes to paying you more for it. or putting you a step higher so that you can teach or lead others.

sigh. Come on. Sad.

Anyway, my roomies come back screaming about discrimination at his work place. so if you have anythging to say, the comments option is open :)

Cheers!!!

Managing Music

I dont call myself a music lover. But strangely I have over 18 GB of music. And a pretty decent collection of trance, hip hop, old classics, rock and so on...Except heavy metal (Cant make out whats the tune and whats the lyrics in it anyway..)

While I listen to different kinds of music, I never had a headache regarding managing the same. I had my play lists and updated new songs all neatly arranged, until my notebook crashed. After recovering the disks, picking out songs became a terror.

Most of my collections were numbered. And it was a pain trying to make out one song from another as most of the songs were named "Track 1" or "01". But now I have embarked on mission "remove-the-numbers-and -replace-with-names".Or something like that.

Don know how many days its gonna take. But guess it will be worth it. At least till the lappy crashes again!!!

Mcdonalds Sucks.

Let me tell you all a little story.

Once there was a big old beast called McDonald. The Beast used to serve hot and delicious burgers to little people like me. And when little people like me were too lazy to wake up and walk to them, they used to deliver to our little homes. For an extra fee of course. (Which most of the other beasts don't charge)

After countless deliverys, all of a sudden McDonald goes crazy. It must be all the money they must be making after so many little people started buying from them.

They deliver my orders 90 min late, thereby making me crazy in hunger.(11.30 pm)
They give me a leaking coke cup, tell me nothing is wrong (while the coke is dripping over their hands) and then finally change the coke 20 min late
On another occassion the guy delivers a "tikki burger" and tries to convince "ME" that its a mahraja mac.

Then they introduce their order tracking and delivery system, and after swearing never to order from them, I relent. And give it a try.

And they deliver 45min later. Again. For a house thats a 10min walk from their outlet. And they charge us for it. Its like the Beasts gone bonkers or something.

So the little people (like me) got angry and decided to boycott McDonald (The particular store) and give proper feedback to a decision maker from their company regarding "PAID" customer service. (If your from McDonald, or know someone from there show them this)

And till that happens the BEAST and the little people live happily ever after.

We did treat another BEAST (read P-I-Z-Z-A H-U-T) sometime ago with some liberal dose of the English Dictionary, and some mobile talk later we had a "forgiveness meal" offered. Which we dint take of course (tempted though we were) But lateral sources inform us that many little people have been facing the same beastly services recently. Guess the management is busy making money from cheap "dine-in" services.

Anyway, keep living people!!!

2010

Hey there

Its been a long year. A year of confusions and decisions. Decisions amongst confusions and am not sure which was which. Anyway.

This year I do not make commitments or resolutions. Instead I decide to follow up and complete what my mind started 5 years ago. To decide my future and my destiny myself.

In other words, screw the world.

I mean, come to think of it, I have listened enough to everyone. This year is my year of independence. I will be running on 25 soon and I think this year has got to be the year that defines me. I have got to be the center stage, and every other damn act second step.

Its about time too. They say when you want something bad enough, the universe comes together to give it to you. Well this year am giving the universe lottsa work, so to speak.

I hope you have made up your mind too..

Till then

Live like theres no tommorrow.

Status Update-makeup,music and now madira

Hey Blogosphere!!!

Been some time that I wrote on whats happening on my life, so I thought I'd give y all a heads up.

As some of you know and as most of you don't know, I have been working with Loreal for over 2 years. During this period I have learned immensely from an organization known for its class, effectiveness and world class products.

I have also had the good fortune to see the fall and rise of a great giant. We went through tough times, and have taken the bull by the horns and pushed back. I have also reason to believe that the coming year will be a treat for many of our customers in India, especially men ;)

and oh yeah women too!!!

However all said and done, I have moved on. It was a difficult decision to make, and it has taken many a night and dozen pitchers of cool brewed barley to decide. You see, its an awful decision to make when you know the future of the company is bright, and yet somehow intuition tells you that its not going to be the same for you.

Anyway, I had two offers going, one was the company I have currently joined, which at that time hadn't finalized on their choice yet. So I had to join another company which was a Radio company, but then it was a sales job. I had my doubts on whether I'd enjoy the job, because I dint want to work in sales.

Intuition and the pitcher of cool brewed barley helped again, when the Radio job was going terrible, and the other company finally called. And it was a great job and best part- it wasn't sales!!!

Dont't get me wrong. I have nothing against sales, but am just not cut out for it and I'd rather negotiate on promos than prices :)

So finally, I am now in SAB Miller, the worlds leading brewing company aka BEER aka pitchers of cool brewed barley :)

I handle the Trade marketing role for the prime outlets, clubs and all that for a state, with brands like Indus Pride, Fosters and Peroni. Dont be surprised if you see more on beer and Peroni instead of the Garnier Eye roll ons on this blog!!!

To all of you, Thanks for sticking around. It might just get better for you guys!!!

Cheers!!! (And I used to sign of like this even before SAB Miller!!!)

Delightful encounter part 2

The Environment was very conducive to romantic thoughts. And as I mused about life in general I noticed that it had got dark outside and the window was pretty much reflective. I saw a pretty face looking at me from across the row. I turned quick to face the beautiful thing and she was quick to avert my gaze.

And so it went on for a couple of hours. I looked at her in the window reflection. She would look at me. I would pretend to be dis interested. And then she would look on...and it was kinda cute. I finally decided to take a chance and hatched a plan to create a situation to talk to her.

Our destination was the same. So I decided to drop my purse accidentally just before she got down. Naturally she would want to point it out to me and give me a chance to say hi!

A sudden jerk awoke me from my slumber and I realized I had been dreaming. As I hurried outta my seat and ran down the aisle, a voice called me.

"Excuse me!"

I turned around and saw her calling out to me. It took me 5 seconds to realize I had been staring.

"you left your wallet on the seat"

What? I did? I thought I was dreaming about that.

As I went back to pick the wallet, she crossed me. Her perfume was fantastic. I picked up my wallet and got down the bus to find her, but she was gone. I did a quick run round the bus station, but she was gone.

Dejected, I walked out of the station to catch an auto, and then I saw her sitting in a car. Our eyes met and she smiled and waved as the car passed bye. I could only half raise my hand in return.....

Cheers!!!

Delightful encounter...part 1

An amusing incident happened a couple couple of years ago when I was traveling from Bangalore, on my way home for a long weekend. It so happened that being the lazy ass that I am, I couldn't get tickets for the lone bus that stopped at my village.

I tried bribing the ticket agent with all the shampoo and fairness creams he could use, but he dint seem to care much for imported stuff. So I had to settle for a longer route back home, and had to catch a morning bus to Mangalore;Luckily I got a comfortable Volvo.

Usually, it takes about 8 hours to reach Mangalore from Bangalore, and about 3. 6 seconds for me to doze off and snore away in glory of the elephants of Rajpur, but since it was a morning ride I decided to listen to some music. I was hoping Priyanka Chopra would occupy my neighbouring seat, but as luck would have it, a granpa with serious issues came and sat next to me, all the while giving me menacing looks, and nodding his head in disapproval at the linkin park blaring through my iphone.

After an hour or so, I had this beautiful girl get on to the bus and take a seat on the other side of my row. So we were sharing window seats on opposite sides. Though not the one to try stunts, there was always the hope of opportunity that lingers. But since I couldnt see her and the whole dam journey was getting boring, I went off to sleep.

I woke to the sight of coconut trees flashing bye the windows and a slightly....(to be cont'd)

Sample farewell letter

During my recent Job change/s episode, I have been looking at hundreds of sample resignation/farewell letters and some where honestly funny ones. So I thought why not??!!

Heres a sample farwell letter for you bored, lousy boss,no social life, etc types.

Hi Team

As some of you know, today will be my last day at (company).

I had joined in dd/mm/yyyy, and it has been an eventful 2 years. Not many get the chance to start their careers with (company), and fewer still leave so soon. I am thankful for both. And I hope people dont make the same mistake I did.

At the cost of sounding arrogant, I must say that my best is yet to come. And am sad its not going to be at (company). However of whatever little that am going to miss, I must thank all of you for providing me the right environment to look out for a job and collectively enabling me to take the decision to leave.

Heres wishing you reprise from misery.

Take Care.

Tom Dick Harry.

Dear Bangaloreans...

After riding my bike in heavy downpour, through waters where no biker would dare to go, I felt it my social responsibility to educate my fellow drivers/riders about certain things. Here goes

For my dear Bikers:

1. I agree you cant see a damn thing when it rains, but that doesnt mean the roads are empty. Dont get into that impression

2. When your already drenched it makes no sense to avoid water. Ur not a "famous four" member to have an invisible shield around yourself

3. Bikes are meant to drive on roads. Not on footpaths, other riders legs, drainages. Stick to roads, or whatever little is left of the roads.

For my dear Car Drivers.

1. The roads are not your ancestoral property/dowry gift/etc. We pay road tax as well, so dont think you own the road.

2. Hit and run is still a crime in India. Yes, even if it rains.

3. When it rains, the roads are a bit difficult to navigate. There are lesser souls like us trying to ride as well.

For my dear Cabbies.

1. Yes I agreed you got the roads as a gift from the IT fraternity, but that doesnt mean you dont come under the Road Transport Act of India.

2. You too don't have licence to hit and run. No. You cant kill either.

3. Dropping your passengers home is important. Dropping them alive and in one piece is more important.

4. When it rains, please avoid acting like your driving a boeing 707. Its still a car and is susceptible to stone throwing from other riders. Like me.

Kindly oblige

Cheers!!!

5 Quick Movie reviews

I don know how many of you will agree with me, but the past few hollywood releases seem to have been real duds...
It all began with the Angels and Demons phenomena..It was so predictable that I had second thoughts..perhaps I was watching a sterotype bollywood movie. I mean so so lame...and before you can say it, NO I havent read the book. It was like I was thinking this would be next probably..and then bang it happens. sheesh!!!

Then came those crazy beasts aka Wolverine. Nice viewing pleaseure, but my Indian movie buffs would nod their heads in agreement if the ending dint look like a typical paresh rawal villain scene. Bad Guy blackmails girl. Girl traps guy. girl plays dead. Villain acts to help the guy. Ruins him instead. Guy finds out....and so on. BLAH!!!

Then came the worst movie of the century. Terminator Salvation. It should have been named Directors salvation. I mean somewhere in between, theres a connor whos lost his senses running up and down in time, and then we have a son father combo who dont seem to be sure of what theyr e supposed to be doing. They also put in a half terminator whos having some moral issues. And finally some nutcase who is incessant on showing the story revolving around ONLY two characters. I mean the director must have got so confused, that he let the whole crew have a shot at the movie making!!!..No action at all...Arnie!!! Come back!!!

Sigh, some of ma friends argue that I have been too demanding. Hell!!! The movies weren't even average. Not a decent sense of suspense in Angels and Demons, No sense and logic, let alone action in Terminator salvation. Anyway Wolverine was the best among the three, and I'd give it a DM Rating of 3.25/5. The rest was thumbs down

Some more movies I did watch though were Ice Age 3. It wasn't as funny as the first two, but with a good enuf story line, animation and the whacky characters it was a good watch. DM Rating of 3.9/5

Now one movie I wouldnt like to comment on would be Harry Potter and the half blood prince. If I look at it purely as a first time harry potter movie goer, it was damn boring. If I look at it from the harry potter-non book-reader yet follower, it wasnt as entertaining as the previous ones, but I know something is cooking in the next part. But for those who'd read all the books ,it would be damn brilliant and one of the best adaptations of the book. I will be fair and give it a DM Rating of 3.95

One movie I couldnt catch was Transformers 2. Somehow Megan Fox dint have the pleasure of me catching the movie...Guess she'll have to wait!!!

Cheers!!!

The day my knee went kaput...

Howdy!!!

It so happened one fine day ("fine is only for graphical usage") that my knee decided to take matters into its own hands...er own legs. or foot, whatever!

Ever since I got a job, my stomach seems to have developed a new appetite for food. It completley disregards the messages my brains sends to it, and I have a doubt my brain is hand-in-glove with my stomach. So, due to the scheme of things, my knee started having to deal with weighty issues, and on the day mentioned above, decided to give up on me.

I heard a slight "twang" while I rested myself on the mattress. I knew that the knee was upto something, and throughout the entire movie of "ICe Age 3" all I could do was twist and turn for a better position and hope for some ice for ma knee.

Surprisingly, it stopped acting up and I was fine for the next two days, when Monday the dang thing decided to show its democratic right of reprsentation in full might by swelling up and hurting like H-E-L-L.

So off I went to the nearest hospital to see this doc who was gonna threaten my knee into submission and get me back to painless days and nights. However the moment I walked into the hospital, I found it infested with tie wearing, bag totting people who I'd never expect to see in a hospital. For a second I thought that the Doctors were on their casual wear day thing, jus like Bangalore's software industries "casual Fridays", were you wear the best casual dressing you have, only to sit in a cubicle in front of desktop screen the whole day. (who are they trying to impress anyway!)

I then realised that these smart dressed people, were medical reprsentatives, who on the pretext of selling medicine, infest the hospitals to give poor ol salesmen like us inferiority complexes.

My doc arrived promptly 15 minutes late on his schedule, and started taking his appointments in twos and threes at a go. I got to go in with a poor ol software chap, who had some major issue with his spine, and the darn thing was planning on getting him on the doc's surgery table.

Meanwhile he motioned me to get ready for inspection, and just then my knee goes blank. The pains gone as if nothing had ever happened. Not to be outsmarted by my own knee, I made sure I got a thorough examination. Somehow the doc felt that the pain was due to some act of the "blah blah blah blah blah" and so we need to "bla h blah blah blah" which would need a X ray.

As I came back after the darn X ray, I was relieved to know that the ol knee was fine, no damage, but since the pain persisted, it could be a "blah blah blah blah" so I might need to go back for a MRI scan and some other stuff.

Enough was enough, I decided to take the knee into my own hands. In the hands of my trusted roomie I plopped my secret weapon. The dreaded "Crepe Bandage". And he prompltly wraped up the guilty knee into coils of tight cloth.

After thus securing the knee in bondage, I am now bombarding it with capsule of drugs. So far ma knee is loosing the fight, thought the thing still has some resistance left. Hopefully with the final attack the coming week, I would have demolished this rise of the knee mutiny for once and for all...

Will keep you posted on the developments of the war between ma knee and maself...

till then

Cheers!!!
