Nokia 5800 v/s I phone

Ok before you guys think I am showing off cos I gotta an i phone, let me make it clear that this post is inspired by the hopeless and careless attitude thrown by nokia sales guys in their stores.

First of all, I was wondering why the I phone costs so much...nothing spectacularly different apart from the superb touch screen and billions of applications. The bluetooth doesnt connect to most devices, and features like forwarding messages are missing. But still the phone is a real beauty and their is nothing that I know can match its finger sensitive screen.

Or So I thought...

Being a huge fan of Nokia and its handsets, I usually check their latest offering on the net and the stores spread acroos Bangalore.

I dropped in today to check out the Nokia Express 5800 the touch screen phone from Nokia. Supposedly the crowd breaker in the touch screen handheld departments. While I went in, I just enquired about the phone. I asked him how the phone was in comparison to the i phone, and he said "FAR Better". Now this took me by surprise and I moved on to see the live demo of the 5800.

Believe me, it took 3 screen taps to get to the menu. I was already loosing patience, on tapping repeatedly to get the applications running. 5min and dozen taps later, I was no longer bothered to check out the 5800. ITs been a dissapointment to me so far.

Another fact being, most of the nokia (or any brand for tat matter) guys seem to have absolutely no idea about the mobile details apart from camera, wi fi, email, memory and music player. They dont know about detailed features like, camera focus or internet speeds or software versions or compatibility with devices. And the way they explain about the phones is more of a "take it if you want it" kinda attitude.

Strange. I dont know if its just me or is something wrong here.. IT s been a while since I held a nokia and I was kinda looking forward to buying a Nokia. Dont see that happening anywhere soon now...

Nokia top 8 phones

Over the years Nokia has revolutionized the mobile phone markets in India. As far as I remember holding a Nokia in your hand, was the ultimate status symbol, making you a classy, gadet oriented dude. Well today am taking a look at the all time top ten mobiles in my opinion in India, whihc I recall from my time!!!

This is not a ranking of any sorts, but just a timeline kinda thing.

Here Goes

1. Nokia 3310

This phone was my first phone, paid 3800 bucks in 2004. A time when messaging was free, this was theeee phone to have. There was also the popular 3315 also which had some few changes and a slight change in the keypad. All in good ol black and white!!!

2. Nokia 1100 --->

The phone that took India by craze!!! The made

  for India phone had the best roughability and usability, probably matching the 3310, which is still in use in the market. The 1100 also hadthe torch which again made it a quite feature full phone. As in the 3310 there was also a white background phone for the 1100, the more popular 1108.

3. Nokia 3530

Arguably one of the most overpriced colour rich(for those times!!!) featureless phones. The phone was a break through for its see through cover. --->

4. Nokia 3610

Though I never personally liked this phone for it looks, it seemed to every other hand in the happening "Manipal" crowd. (FYI Manipal a very small town with its world class educational facilities, is the most highest mobile density towns in India. An average of 3 cell phones per person!!!)

5. Nokia 3100

This small colour phone with its glow in the dark side lines and cool styling was a hit and a relief from the bulky phones of the time. It was also fit in the hand.

6. Nokia 6610

Wow!!! What can I say about this phone. The super popular, the super classy and the super professional phone is the 6610. The only thing this phone lacked at that time was a camera. And sure enough Nokia did release the 6610i which had a camera, but a pathetic one at that. 

The 6610 was undoubtedly one of the best phones ever made in the transition of mobile-black and white-clour phones. One of my absolutely favorite phones.

7. Nokia 6600

Aha!!! The nokia 6600 is the ambassador of camera phones!!! If ever there was a high end phone in the transition to camera phones it was the 6600. Every one wanted it. Sooo many had it. It was so popular that it also became the most hated after it became common enough. Every other hand had it. It dint help that the 7610 wasnt that popular for its price against features.

8. N gage

This phone though I wouldnt say is avery popular phone, it was one of the gaming phones which

 also had a new ngage qd version for the same. --->

Well there are many other phones in the recent past which have done quite well, like the 6680 or the 3250. And of course the N series!!! 

However the market has become bombarded with top brand s coming in with super feature rich slim phones. So Nokia has a long and tough fight ahead to ensure it sticks to the top.

ASUS Experience!!!

Hi, I had recently bough an Asus PDA, in Sangeetha. During the time many of my friends suggested to go for a more popular model, like N series or an HTC. But zara hatke that I am I went ahead buying my ASUS P527 PDA after much research and deep study( Rs 17000 spent had to be bloody well worth it!!!)

Strangely a fortnight ago, the fantastic music headphone went kaput!!! absolutely no sound in the headphone.. I took it to Sangeetha who were prompt enough to direct me to the ASUS service center. But the service center was closed and they had shifted to a new location.

Today I had been to the service center, Man it was an awsome place; unlike your crowded, "we are the best " Nokia centres ( Incidentally I still Love NOKIA!!!) it was very cool, well presented and had a nice couch too. I went ahead and told them the issue, they wrote down the complaint, and in 5 min....

GAVE me a NEW HEADSET!!! in 5 min!!! can you believe that?! It felt really good. most centers would have it sent for checking and all that but this happened so fast, I was really surprised. Man looks like ASUS has got a fan for Life!

ASUS is actually a manufacturer for mother boards of laptops and computers. The mother boards that go into your HP's and compaqs are from ASUS. Now they have come out with Laptops and PDA's. And beleive me they sure do look awesome and worth the money. Am really looking forward to the new launches coming up this month end..with the first 128 MB ram PDA. WOW!!! looks great..lets c what it turns out as!!!
